Title - The Effects of Ethylene on Fruits
After I proved that ethylene causes fruits to ripen faster, I wanted to know if
Ethylene Control Sachets could control ethylene gas. My hypothesis was that Ethylene Control
Sachets will slow down the ripening process of fruits. This proved to be
correct!
The bag of Pears with the sachet ripened slower than the bag of pears
without the sachet. Here is a
picture for your to post on your website. My Mom said it is okay!
Thank you,
Mr. Kendall Belcher
Please note, Kendall received two first place honors for his project --- one
at the Local
Science Fair and one at the Louisiana State Fair. He also received second
place honors at the Caddo Parish 4-H Exhibit. On behalf of Ethylene
Control, Inc. our congratulations again Kendall. Great job!!!

Title: The Effect
of Ethylene on Kiwifruit Date:
1999 Conclusion:
My first hypothesis stated that adding an apple to the container with the
Kiwi would shorten the ripening time. This
proved to be incorrect because the Kiwi alone had the fastest ripening time.
More than likely, there was ethylene gas present throughout my
refrigerator when I performed my test.
My second hypothesis stated that by adding an Ethylene
Control Sachet to the test, it would take the
Kiwi longer to ripen.
This proved to be correct because the Kiwi-Sachet test sample had the
longest
ripening time. I confirmed
this fact with a Hand Refractometer, which showed the levels at 12.50 soluble solids. A Kiwi-Apple-Sachet had a
level of 13.50 soluble solids. I
conclude that the Ethylene Control sachet was effective in controlling the
ethylene gas in the containers, therefore lengthening the ripening process of
the Kiwi.
Mr. Nick Jones
I would like to mention
that Nick was our first student web scientist who completed a project for post
on our Science Research website. Thank you Nick for a great start to our
Student Research section.
